One Busy Day, today
A lot of the morning was wasted motion. One thing was the need to verify a doctor's appointment for tomorrow. Getting nowhere earlier I finally realized they weren't taking calls nntil 19 o 'clock. Then I ordered another pair of binoculars. Ann and Sam liked the ones that came last week so much they wanted me to order them a pair just like it. I insisted they take them as I was too busy to do much birdwatching right now. So I ordered another pair today.' While waiting for it tobe ten oclock so I could verify verify the appointment I decided to bake some biscotti for a group of teachers at the AHHAS workshop being conducted in cave Spring this week. Winnie usually brings them over for a snack each year.
I found a recipe I'd copied from the internet and decided to work around it but only using half the ingedients. The only plain white flour I had was self rising so I decided 2 cups of that would have too much baking powder, so I used whole wheat flour for the second cup. The 1/2 cup of plain sugar suggested was substituted with slightly less than that of brown sugar. One teaspoon of baking powder was poured in and all the dry ingredients mixed well. Nest step was the gradual addition with frequent stirrings of the moist ingredients so I started putting all of them in a cup: 3 eggs, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, 1/2 tsp almond extact, and 1/4 Cup of charbonnay wine (instead of the almond liquer in the original recipe.) Then I decided to add some sunflower seeds instead of the l cup nuts ground nuts suggested.as I didn't want to take the trouble to
chop some nuts. I had some sunflower seeds in the pantry and found a glass container with less than that and added them. Since the recpe had suggested a whole cup I went bak to the pantry and looked for the other sunflower seedsand saw what looked the same in another blass jar and dumped them in. Then I decided to taste the mixture an discovered the last had been uncooked lentils and they were as hard as bits of glass. Not wanting to pay anyone's dental bills I went ahead and baked the mixture. It should please the birds.
Then I made the second batch using lemon juice because I didn't want to climb up to where I kept the wine I had already put away. This time all was well. I got them in the oven just in tim to heat up some left overs as Dekie, my editor ws coming for lunch. She is always exactly on time. She had sent a copy of the cover and there were too many revview on them and wanted to know if I didn't agree. I did. Although I wanted her to leave the one her husband to be in a mont, a landscape gardener, had written as it was down to earth and believable, unlike the others whiich are almost embarassing praises.
She left and I cleared off the dining table and put some of the dishes in to soak while I went to get the mail. Found a book I'd sent off before with the wrong adddess had come back again. They couldn't read my writing! Also in the mail was an envelope containing the telephone payment I'd sent to Mary jane. I had typed a 2 where I should have hit the one. I should slow down and check such things..
Before I got the mess from the biscotti fiasco and the dishes done there was a knock on the door and in came John Johnston with a video camerman from a Rome newspaper who told me he had emailed me at least a month ago (I never received such.) Anyway he wanted to do a video of me about my life. I said o.k., but dont let the mess around the kitchen sink and the bar show. So I sat at a table and he said, "Tell me about your life." For the next 30 minutes or more I told him a lot. and he finally had to stop me. He took some closeups of my world travel map, some trolls, and my book which he said he'd insert into the video.
He'll let me know when it will be ready. You can contact the newspaper and see it on the internet. Since they don't sell as many papers they are evidently trying videos to attract advertisers.
He stayed so long it was almost time for the group of artists that are here this week for an AHHAS workshop to come by for a snack (I usially give them a meal but this year they accepted other invitation.before I got around to asking them.) I had to go into my highest gear to clean things up in the kitchen area so I shoved evrything I could in the refrigerator, oven, and dishwasher.
While baking the cookies I had already sliced up the cheeses I was serving the aartists, but I had to add some more chick peas and lemon juice to some storeboutht hummus that I thought ne. I got out the big water heater gadget for tea or coffee and the ingredients and cups for both. Placed the cafeteria trays at the edge of the bar and beyond that The rest of the food which only rqeuired getting bowls out of the china closet for *****ers, flat bread, nuts, and the biscotti. Winnie was bringing some fruit. By the time they arrived I was down to getting ice for the CaveSpring water and some cranberry juice.
I had set the large talble for 6 but I wasn't sure if that included me, so I sat 2 places at the smaller round table. But 3 of the group, the couple who come from Denver to teach egg painting, and a newcomer, who teaches working with tin) saw how inviting the gazebo looked and headed out there. I followed them and
enjoyed hearing their tales.
Im not sure just what the women who styed inside with Winnie taught, but later one of them came outside and showed me a cute purse she made from Kudsu. She is teadhing weaving with it. Of course I let them all know tht I had writen a book and sold a volume one and got orders for 2 volume twos. When showing them some of my trolls she tried to buy one of my keepers but I had to tell her she couldn't and that I would try to make one as close as possible to it. Not an easy thing as the clay often has ideas of its own.
I After they left I put all the hidden dirty dishes and pans in the dishwasher and enjoyed a good sit down in frn the the PBS evening news while eating some delicious venison Richard had brought yesterday, a gift from my youngest son, Jim.
I shall sleep well tonight.

One Busy Day, today

---------- Post added at 10:09 ---------- Previous post was at 10:08 ----------

"Ah... What a lovely day
and I had a good sleep last
night," I said. It was a
sunny day. I checked the
time to get ready to go to
school. I took a big deep
breath and felt relaxed.
"Ah, just in time," I said as
I walked to the bathroom
and washed and brushed
my teeth slowly. I
thought it took only
about 10 minutes.
I checked the time again
and it was already 7:05. I
said, "Oh my god! I'm late
for school! I'm dead!" My
teacher would send me to
the principal, as usual.
Then, she would call my
mom. My mom would kill
me. So I rushed
downstairs and ate my
breakfast as fast as a
gunshot. Suddenly, there
was a bus horning madly
outside my house. I
stuffed my breakfast into
my mouth and ran to the
bus.
I ran to a seat without
looking at anybody. I
didn't say, "Hello," to my
mates. They greeted me
but I ignored them. When
I reached my seat, I
looked down and saw
something strange. I
hadn't worn my socks or
shoes! I was wearing
sandals! I said to myself,
"I'm dead!" I wanted to
check if it was a dream so
I slapped my face and
looked at my feet again
but I wasn’t dreaming. It
was real.
When I reached school,
nobody was wearing
socks. I said to myself,
"They are weird. Maybe
they will also get into
trouble," I giggled to
myself. I went into the
classroom. My teacher
looked at my sandals but
he said nothing. I went to
my desk and said, "Good
morning!" to my teacher.
The teacher asked me,
"What did you wear for
Free Socks Day?"
I said, "I wore none. I'm
dead!"
"No, today is Free Socks
Day," the teacher said.
I felt really lucky, luckier
than you can imagine. I
went to recess and played
soccer. I played better
than usual. That day was
my luckiest day.
